Every year several UNM women compete for the prestigious Miss Indian University of New Mexico title through a competitive pageant.

2014 MIUNM Pageant JUDGES

  • Ms. Pam Agoyo,Cochiti/Kewa/Ohkay Owingeh Pueblos, Director of American Indian Student Services and Special Assistant to the President for American Indian Affairs
  • Dr. Robin Minthorn, Kiowa/Apache/Nez Perce, Umatilla/Assiniboin, Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership and Native American Studies
  • Ashley Pino, Acoma Pueblo/Kewa/Northern Cheyenne, 2013-2014 Miss Indian New Mexico
  • Benny Shendo, Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico State Senator
  • Travis Suazo, Laguna/Acoma/Taos Pueblos, Executive Director of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Inc.

This year we had 3 outstanding contestants who began preparing for the Pageant since the first MIUNM Interest Meeting in February 2014.  Once they submitted their applications on March 1st, the group met weekly to plan and coordinate for the Pageant.
The 7 Contestants competed in 5 areas:

  • Cumulative GPA
  • Essay Writing
  • Fundraising
  • Traditional Talent
  • Impromptu Questioning

Each Contestant was commended for competing for the honor of serving as the Ambassador of the UNM American Indian community.  Thank you to all the Contestants and supporters!
